Notes | Produced before 1900. Set of 7 thaumatropes - card discs with string either side which when pulled transposes an image from one side onto a background scene on the other. This set is French with adverts for 'Biscuits-Germain-Lyons' and is credited to the 'Académie des Arts Graphiques.' They are likely to date from the end of the nineteenth century. The 7 scenes are: the steeplechase; a puppet show; a magic lantern show; the circus; 'La Mère Michel'; The Aquarium; the shepherd.
